Privacy Policy
Last updated [DATE] · Version 1.0
This policy explains what Kavomi (“the app”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and what choices you have. Kavomi is a brew timer and coffee journal published by [YOUR LEGAL NAME OR BUSINESS NAME], [COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE / REGISTRATION].
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at [privacy@kavomi.app].
1. Data that stays on your device
Your brews, recipes, journal entries, shelf items, and any photos you add are stored locally on your device. We do not upload this content to a server. You control it directly:
- Export/backup: you can export your data as a JSON file at any time, and re-import it on this or another device. This only happens when you choose to do it — it is never sent to us automatically.
- Photos: when you attach a photo to a brew or bean entry, the app copies the image file into its own local storage. It is not uploaded anywhere.
- Deleting the app removes this data, since nothing is mirrored on our servers today.
2. Data we do collect
Even though your brewing data stays local, a few things leave your device today:
Crash and error reports
We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., a US-based company) to learn about crashes and bugs. When something goes wrong, we send a report that can include: the error message and stack trace, device model, OS version, app version, and a small amount of surrounding technical context. We deliberately strip your brewing/backup data out of these reports before they’re sent. This is disabled during development and only active in production builds.
Usage analytics
We use OpenPanel, an analytics tool that we self-host on our own server (not a third-party SaaS analytics vendor). The app and our website generate an anonymous ID — not tied to your name, email, or any account — and use it to send basic usage events (e.g. which screens or pages you visit, which features you use). This helps us understand which parts of the app and site are useful and which are confusing.
Location
If you use the cafe map/explore feature, the app asks for your device’s location (foreground only — never in the background) to center the map and find nearby cafes, using Google Maps Platform. This permission is optional: if you decline it, the map/explore feature simply won’t center on you, and the rest of the app works normally. Your location is used to render the map and is not stored by us.
3. Who we share data with
| Who | What they get | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA) | Crash reports, device/app metadata | Diagnosing bugs and crashes |
| Our own analytics server (self-hosted OpenPanel) | Anonymous ID, screen/page views, feature usage events | Understanding feature usage |
| Google Maps Platform | Your approximate location, only while using the map | Rendering the map / finding nearby cafes |
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
4. International data transfers
Sentry processes data in the United States. [CONFIRM: Sentry’s EU-US Data Privacy Framework / SCC status if you have EU users, or state that you rely on Sentry’s standard contractual clauses.] Our own analytics server is located in [SERVER COUNTRY/REGION].
5. Your rights
Because your brewing/journal data lives on your device, you already have full control over it — export, delete, or move it whenever you like via the app’s backup feature or by uninstalling the app.
For the limited data we do collect (crash reports, anonymous analytics), you can:
- Ask us what we hold that’s associated with your analytics ID (note: since it’s anonymous, we generally cannot look this up without you providing the ID from your device).
- Ask us to delete it, by contacting [privacy@kavomi.app].
- Decline the location permission at any time via your device’s OS settings.
If you’re in the EU/UK, you have rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection) and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you’re a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA. [CONFIRM SCOPE WITH COUNSEL IF YOU EXPECT MEANINGFUL EU/CA USER VOLUME.]
6. Children’s privacy
Kavomi is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
7. Data retention
- Local app data: kept until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Crash reports: retained by Sentry per their standard retention window (typically 90 days), then deleted.
- Analytics events: retained for [RETENTION PERIOD, e.g. 12 months], then deleted or aggregated.
8. What changes when accounts launch
We’re planning to introduce optional accounts, first to sync your existing local brewing/journal data across devices, and later to support a shared database of cafes. When that ships:
- This policy will be updated before the feature is available, with a clear changelog and an in-app notice.
- You’ll be asked to accept the then-current Terms of Service and Privacy Policy when you create an account.
- We’ll describe exactly what new data is stored server-side (e.g. email, synced brew data), where, and how to delete your account and its data.
Using the app without creating an account will continue to work exactly as it does today.
9. Changes to this policy
We’ll update the “Last updated” date above and note material changes here. For significant changes, we’ll show an in-app notice.
